AoE is usually damage or condition/hex apply... Channeling, Hex Eater Signet and AV/SV shouldn't be here.

AoEs don't have to do dmg o.o. hes just showing skills with range.
Anyways looking at this now...I think someone needs to do something about air of enchantment and shared burden... put air for nearby and shared burden to area . I've never seen air of disenchantment in play ever! I've used shared burden but air is just...i have no use for this skill. They should buff air of disenchantment to...remove more enchantments or slow down all spells and not just enchantments...dervish enchantsments are too freaken fast anyways( same with enchanters conundrum maybe?) Mesmer elites make me soo mad sometimes.

Those skills wouldnt see use even if they were map ranged...
They lack the power, utility, or uniqueness to be of any use anywhere. Without damage or degen, they wont get use in PvE, and by being so bad, with immensely better options from just Illusion line, they wont be used in any PvP.

Whoever said they were effective skills...its just so you don't have to go looking for which ones are AoE.
TBH the only nonelite ones that are usable as sunspear skill fodder are Soothing Images + Arcane Conundrum.

They should because they DO cause an affect in an area, hence area of affect.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I would love to have Chaos Strom changed or a similar skill added to just drain energy over time rather then dmg over time / energy drain while casting spells. Just a thought for AOE buff for the Mesmer………….Mr. A-net developer.

3 ideas
1) Energy draining instead doing some damage. While foes in the area cast spells, they receive a fair amount of damage (going to 50, etc). Increase the area adjacant to nearby or in the Area. cost 10 energy instead
2) Boost the damage la little, not much, constant energy draining (like you said Painbringer). Increase Adjacant to Nearby. peharps keeping 15 energy cost or higher (25 energy)
3) Make it very spammable (4 recharge for enxample) at cost of 10 energy and keep all like that or boost the damage a little. Increase adjacant to nearby.
It just some ideas to make it a little better, not thinking overpowered. I know about for the PvP balance. But it just make me sick to see players using the same skills to make pressure. Its easy to get out of Chaos storm anyway

The "at target's location" clause is misleading as the elementalist wards and AoE are nearby/in the area.

Well it is pretty bad recharge, range, and damagewise but if you're going straight mesmer you don't have many other options for straight AoE damage

chaos storm isn't that great in PvE but with a snare in PvP you'll shutdown and burnout a monk. IMO mesmers just dont have enough power to clear out mobs for farming, though they can spike some nice numbers, degen, and mess everybody up a whole lot ^.^ IW+whirlwind+stances is a nice build for taking some melee, only healing I have is ether feast and I'm warrior primary (deleted my mesmer, i thought it was pointless to have in pve, i wanted to make a monk for farming)

Assassin's promise + using it to make hard mode enemies run around until passive defence is set. Plus, ranged mobs/casters don't kite it.
It's not a good skill, but it's useful. Then again, so is everything.

ranged mobs/casters don't kite it?
Breath of Fire/Firestorm/Maelstrom has a similar effect...I haven't tried it after the AOE nerf but it must be bug or something to do with adjacent range since anything in the elementalist DOT would definitely cause scatter.
EDIT: Maybe mobs like the purple? Or the fact that it is armor ignoring means it doesn't trigger AOE scatter...

I use it in PVE, and have even arcane echoed it when I get a tight group. The damage works pretty well since you are x 2. I just personally think it would be more useful if it just drained the 7 energy a second within the spell effect area(no requirements like the current “while casting a spell”) you could cause some mass havoc like we should be able to do.

shared burden would own if it was map ranged. have you ever though of putting 100% slower on some one? i have and won 10 RA games in a row lol

I've seen Enchanter's Counundrum used in play. Normally, people combine it with Shatter Delusions and Shatter Enchantment for a nice spike.
